Frequently Asked Questions and Fees

How do I contact you, or make an enquiry about an appointment?

You can contact me on 07734 942173 (my mobile is confidential) or email me by using the 'click here to email' option to the right. If I am unable to take your call please leave your name, number and message and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Please note that my practice is closed at weekends (& bank holidays) and I will respond to any messages from the next working day.

How much does it cost?

I charge £60 for a 60 minute session. Payable by BACS/online banking. I require at least 48 hrs notice of cancellation, any less and I do charge the full fee for the missed session. I review my fees annually.

About your first session

The first session (assessment) will be for 1hr where you can tell me about your situation and together we can discuss how I might be able to help you. It also gives you an opportunity to ask any questions about counselling or even about me as counselling needs to feel right for you and that you feel safe with your me. After your session you do not have to book another appointment me.....some people like to go home to think about it.

After my first session

The sessions after your assessment will be 60 minutes long, and at least on a weekly basis. For some people it is necessary to have more than 1 session a week due to the issues concerned or the intensity of the work. It is important for you that regular appointments are agreed and attended.

How many sessions do I need?

I offer long and short term counselling and psychotherapy. Short term counselling can be between 1 and 12 sessions, and long term is over 12 sessions or open ended. I will ask you during your first session your thoughts on this but we can discuss this at any moment during our sessions. This may also include wanting 'top up' sessions for when we have ended, as new life events or issues can arise.

Ending Therapy

Ending the therapy is ideally discussed, planned and agreed. Should you decide to terminate the session before the planned ending it is important that we agree to meet together to have an ending session and say goodbye.

What if I need to cancel?

I require at least 48 hrs notice of which there will be no charge. If I receive less than 48 hrs notice I will charge the full fee. If possible I will try to rearrange your appointment.

Is it confidential and private?

No shared information is disclosed without your permission. What is said during our time together is kept confidential unless I am concerned of your or another's well being, this is in accordance to the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy (to visit the BACP website CLICK HERE). If this was to happen I would do my utmost to discuss it with you first.
I am registered with ICO (Information Commissioners Office) and adhere to the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). The levels of confidentiality at which I work will be clarified during your initial session.

Is there access for a person with disabilities?

The New Street Clinic does not have disability access.
